Aug 15 commentary "For links to the articles I read on the

First item: Anyone remember sept 11 2001? some thing about
hijacked commercial airliners crashing into wtc towers? Anyone
recall stories of very suspicious stock mkt transactions just
prior to 9-11, transactions that would be hard to interpret as
anything other than some folks knowing exactly what was about to
happen, incl which airline companies planes would be involved,
and attempting to cash in on the foreknowledge? That story was
big news for a week or so, then seemed to disappear. Curious
that. Well, the rest of the story we may never know, but
here is a bit more of the story. In his book Crossing the
Rubicon Michael C. Ruppert excerpts a number of reports
published shortly after the attack:
|
A jump in UAL (United Airlines) put options 90 times
(not 90 percent) above normal between September 6 and
September 10, and 285 times higher than average on the
Thursday before the attack. -- CBS News, September 26. A
jump in American Airlines put options 60 times (not 60
percent) above normal on the day before the attacks. --
CBS News, September 26 No similar trading occurred on
any other airlines |
An analysis of the press reports on the subject of apparent
insider trading related to the attack shows a trend, with early
reports highlighting the anomalies, and later reports excusing
them. Ruppert then illustrates an apparent attempt to bury the
story by explaining it away as nothing unusual. A September 30 New
York Times article claims that "benign explanations
are turning up" in the SEC's investigation. 20
The article blames the
activity in put options, which it doesn't quantify, on
"market pessimism," but fails to explain why the price
of the stocks in the airlines doesn't reflect the same market
pessimism. The fact that $2.5 million of the put options
remained unclaimed is not explained at all by market pessimism,
and is evidence that the put option purchasers were part of a
criminal conspiracy. Shortly after the attack the SEC circulated
a list of stocks to securities firms around the world seeking
information. Good beginning. But then silence? So how did the
govt silence this investigation? An
October 19 article in the San Francisco Chronicle
reported that the SEC, after a period of silence, had undertaken
the unprecedented action of deputizing hundreds of private
officials in its investigation:
|
The proposed system, which would go into effect
immediately, effectively deputizes hundreds, if not
thousands, of key players in the private sector. In a
two-page statement issued to "all securities-related
entities" nationwide, the SEC asked companies to
designate senior personnel who appreciate "the
sensitive nature" of the case and can be relied upon
to "exercise appropriate discretion" as
"point" people linking government investigators
and the industry. 17
|
Michael Ruppert, a former LAPD officer, explains the
consequences of this action:
|
What happens when you deputize someone in a national
security or criminal investigation is that you make it
illegal for them to disclose publicly what they know.
Smart move. In effect, they become government agents and
are controlled by government regulations rather than their
own conscience. In fact, they can be thrown in jail
without a hearing if they talk publicly. I have seen this
implied threat time and again with federal investigations,
intelligence agents, and even members of the United States
Congress who are bound so tightly by secrecy oaths and
agreements that they are not even able to disclose
criminal activities inside the government for fear of
incarceration. 18
|
So all you conspiracy theorists, go back to sleep. Everything
is just fine and dandy. How do we know? Our friendly govt tells
us so.
Next item: I usually enjoy a feature of the wed morn news
show: robt ably’s spotlite on freedom. However I must quibble
with this mornings commentary. In it he made the obvious point
that if the us really wants to end the threat of terrorism, it
should change its foreign policies. My contention is that the
elitists governing the united states in our names have no
intention whatsoever of ending terrorism for the simple reason
that terrorism and terrorists do not threaten them personally or
politically but rather serve them brilliantly. Ask yourself:
without the threat of terrorism, would the fascists running our
country have been able to eviscerate our constitution, neuter
our congress, take over our media, and generally have their way
with our fabled rights and liberties? The answer is obvious. The
supposed war on terror is in fact a war on us and our liberties.
If the us did not have the threat of terrorism, a wise and
clever fascist would want to invent and maintain that threat. Oh
my goodness. Perhaps they have. While president, franklin Delano
Roosevelt told the American people The only thing we have to
fear is fear itself. It seems the fascist elite now running our
country took that concept to heart. We live in a nation of fear,
and our fascist govt is doing everything it can to ratchet up
that fear. Geo orwell predicted it, we are living it.
Ok, time to change gears: A group of alumni, highly
established in their careers, got together to visit their old
university professor. The conversation soon turned into
complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests
coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a
large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain,
plastic, glass, crystal, some plain-looking, some expensive and
some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
After all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the
professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking
expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap
ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for
yourselves, that is the source of your problems and
stress." "Be assured that the cup itself adds no
quality to the coffee. In most cases, it's just more expensive
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you
consciously went for the best cups...and then began eyeing each
other's cups." "Now consider this: Life is the coffee,
and the jobs, houses, cars, things, money and position in
society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain
life, and the type of cup we have does notdefine nor change the
quality of life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the
cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee.
President George W. Bush was scheduled to visit the Episcopal
Church outside Washington as part of his campaign to restore his
poll standings. Bush's campaign manager made a visit to the
Bishop, and said to him: "We've been getting a lot of bad
publicity because of the President's position on stem cell
research, the Iraq war, Katrina, and the like. We'll gladly make
a contribution to the church of $100,000 if, during your sermon,
you'd say the President is a saint."
The Bishop thought it over for a few moments and finally said,
"The Church is in desperate need of funds and I will agree
to do it." Bush showed up for the sermon, and the Bishop
spoke: "I'd like to speak to you all this morning about our
President." "George W. Bush is a liar, a cheat, and a
low-intelligence weasel. He took
the tragedy of September 11 and used it to frighten and
manipulate the American people. "He lied about WMDs, and
invaded Iraq for oil and money, causing the deaths of tens of
thousands and making the United States the most hated country on
earth. "He appointed cronies to positions of power and
influence, leading to
widespread death and destruction during Hurricane Katrina.
"He awarded contracts and tax cuts to his rich friends so
that we now have more poverty and a greater gap between rich and
poor than we've had in this
country since the Depression. "He instituted illegal
wiretaps, when getting a warrant from a secret court
would have been a mere administrative detail. Then he ignored
his henchmen's' lies to Congress and claimed he's above the law.
"There's no doubt he heads the most corrupt,
bribe-influenced political party since the Teapot Dome scandal.
"The national surplus has turned into a staggering national
debt, gas prices are up 55%, and vital research into global
warming and stem cell therapy is crippled because he's afraid of
some loudmouth right wing kooks. "Yes, he is a poor example
of a true Christian... But compared to Dick Cheney, George Bush
is a saint."
