well it was an interesting week for the powerful and
arrogant: paul wolfowitz finally got his walking papers, tony
blair announced he was finally going back to poodle raising,
Jacques Chirac’s term of office ended, and alberto Gonzalez is
feeling more pressure every day. And then there is jerry falwell
who died last week. Besides his penchant for making inflammatory
statements not befitting any religious leader, he had his very
own university. according to thecosmicpath.com, graduates of
jerry’s Regent University have infiltrated our government,
particularly our judicial system, Apparently, there are Regent
law student graduates sprinkled all over our government working
toward their religious zealot vision of America. No one will
admit who, but someone fired our federal prosecutors and
replaced them with Regent folks willing to do the special
interest bidding of the Bushes and religious right
next item: anyone out there want to argue that the democratic
leadership and most elected dems are nothing more than
republican lite? They were narrowly elected into what pretends
for power in wash dc on their anti war stance, and Yesterday
they totally caved in to the president and his foolish war on
the Iraqi people and their oil. spineless and gutless. I cant
wait for their 2008 election slogans: vote for us, we are ever
so slightly less odious than the gop. And we’ll still send
your sons and daughters to die in the sands of arabi so we can
continue to keep the price of oil high. In case you haven’t
noticed, almost all of us are millionaires. The price of gas at
the pump is not nearly as important as the value of our stock
investments. And then there are those gosh dang campaign
contributions. So hard to resist.
Companion article: The San Francisco Chronicle
Reports: that an analysis of Pentagon deployment orders
showed that The Bush administration is quietly on track to
nearly double the number of combat troops in Iraq this year. The
little-noticed second surge, designed to reinforce U.S. troops
in Iraq, is being executed by sending more combat brigades and
extending tours of duty for troops already there. , when
additional support troops are included in this second troop
increase, the total number of U.S. troops in Iraq could increase
from 162,000 now to more than 200,000 -- a record-high number --
by the end of the year. The numbers were arrived at by an
analysis of deployment orders by Hearst Newspapers. retired Army
Maj. Gen. William Nash, a former U.S. commander of NATO troops
in Bosnia had this to say: "It doesn't surprise me that
they're not talking about it," "I think they would be
very happy not to have any more attention paid to this."
Next item: well, the dems are trying to do something. Maybe. Hearings
start today on H.R. 1252, a House bill that would make gas price
gouging a federal crime, punishable by 10 years in prison.
Speaker Pelosi has said she'll move the bill to a vote this week—if
there's the two-thirds majority required to fast track the bill
through the process. Oil company lobbyists are frantically
trying to stop the bill. Your representative needs to hear from
you today. Move on .org wants you to sign their petition asking
Congress to pass the price-gouging bill—and then send it to
your friends. You can find their petition on their web site.
Moveon.org next item: on this mornings show : brian Compton
mentioned that the makers of some of the equiptment used by iran
to enrich uranium for their nuclear weapons program are being
made by our old friends Halliburton. I didn’t have time to
research this but he says it was on global research.ca Anyone
wanting to really understand how the war world actually works
could do no better than to read or watch the movie of catch 22
by joseph heller. With great humor, heller explains how the big
players always support both sides of a conflict. Don’t get
upset, Its just business.
Next item: it always pains me to have to admit I was wrong,
but here it is. I have been stating that all construction
projects in iraq have been fubar- screwed up beyond all repair.
Well according to the guardian of London, one project is
proceeding right on schedual and on budget. Its The construction
of the gigantic new us fortress cum embassy. Its proceeding
right on time and on budget. See, we can do something in iraq
when we really care about it. Im sure the Iraqis are impressed.
Electricity, clean water, sewage disposal for iraqis?
Fagetabouit.
humor at end:
EUROPEAN SECURITY ALERT
the united states is not the only country
with homeland security concerns. The English are feeling the
pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have raised
their security level from "Miffed" to
"Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised
yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit
Cross." Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross"
since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out.
Terrorists have been re-categorized from
"Tiresome" to a "Bloody Nuisance." The last
time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning
level was during the Great Fire of 1666.
then we have the French. the French government announced
yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from
"Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels
in France are "Surrender" and "Collaborate."
The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed
France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the
country's military capability. It's not
only the English and French who are on a heightened level of
alert. Italy has increased their alert
level from "Shout Loudly and
Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military
Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective
Combat Operations" and "Change
Sides." The Germans also increased
their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to
"Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also
have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and
"Lose."
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual, and
the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of
Brussels. The Spanish are all excited to
see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully
designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get
a really good look at the old Spanish navy.
New Product Announcement: Apple Computers announced
today that it has developed a computer chip
that can store and play music in women's
breast implants. Called The iBoob it was developed in response
to the many complaints by women that men are continually
staring at their breasts but not listening to them.
Thanks to Apple, now everyone will be happy!
Next weeks show: my guest will be Edward peck, formerly
us ambassador to iraq, and extremely knowledgeable on the middle
east. He is a well spoken and interesting dude. Should be good.
Tune in.
