Oct 18 commentary
Well, incumbent cong john Doolittle finally debated his
challenger charlie brown. Sort of. This from the gv union: Under
conditions set by Doolittle, the two-hour event took place
behind closed doors in Rocklin's Starstream studios, broadcast
to an estimated 20,000 cable subscribers in Placer County, a
small fraction of the district's voters. Since the 4th
cong district stretches all the way to the Oregon border, it’s
a safe bet most voters never got any news of this debate, much
less actually got to hear it. Slick move big john. So,
technically, Doolittle finally kept his word and debated brown.
Technically. And that’s been big johns modus operandi for
years now. Walking that thin line separating sleazy but barely
legal politics from outright corruption. If ever there was a
time for change in local govt, this seems to be that time. The
issues are clear. If you love politics as usual, govt by and for
the fat cats, vote for doolittile. If you want someone who
represents you, vote for brown. And if you can vote, and don’t
, shame on you.
While we are on the subject, do you wonder what Doolittle is
doing with all the money poured on him by wealthy republicans? I
know you are wondering how Doolittle is using the money he
pulled in by having king geo the feeble minded attend his fund
raiser a few weeks ago. You know, the one you were invited to
but had to work instead. My mailbox has been receiving large
full color mailers informing me how bad charlie brown is,
without mentioning what Doolittle is doing about all his links
to congressional corruption scandals. And I even received a
telephone message on my ans machine, warning me about charlie
brown and claiming the call was paid for by the republican
national congressional committee, and assuring me that it was
not authorized by any candidate. Right. Isn’t that cute? I
wonder which candidate they are absolving of any responsibility
for that phone call? So fat cat republicans, that’s where some
of your money is going. Sleazy political mailers and phone
calls. Politics, john Doolittle style. You got to just love it.
Next item; last Friday, Rep. Cong Bob Ney pleaded guilty to
conspiracy and making false statements. He acknowledged taking
money, gifts and favors in return for official actions on behalf
of jack Abramoff and his clients. ney was the first lawmaker to
confess to crimes in an election-year scandal that has stained
the Republican-controlled Congress and the Bush administration.
Moments after his plea to the judge, Ney issued a written
statement I found his careful wording fascinating. "I never
intended my career in public service to end this way, and I am
ashamed it did,". Please notice that he did not apologize
for his crimes, he only regretted that his career ended in
disgrace. Translation: I have no apologies for my crimes, my
only regret is that I got caught. The guy who bribed him is the
very same jack abramahof linked to our congressman john
Doolittle. Doolittle admits taking abramahofs money but insists
he did nothing in return for that money. I guess abramahof just
liked big johns smile. Don’t know bout you but I always give
large sums of money to politicians and expect nothing in return.
Now, how bout that bridge I want to sell you? Next item:
according to the gb union, A task force of local and federal law
enforcement officials entered the homes of several registered
sex offenders last Thursday night to search their computers for
child pornography.
Nevada City Police Sgt. Dan Badour said the task force,
consisting of 20 officers including himself, two FBI
agents, Nevada County Sheriff's deputies, Grass Valley Police
officers and Nevada County Probation officers, searched for sex
offenders who had failed to register or were violating their
probation. "Many computers were searched using special
technology in an attempt to locate child pornography."
Badour said no one was arrested and that The registrants they
searched were all cooperative. Thursday night's task force was
part of "Project Safe Childhood," a mission by the
U.S. Attorney's Office to protect children. Now in case you
missed it, 20 law enforcement officers from 5 govt agencies were
paid your tax dollars to visit registered sex offenders homes
and examine their computers. Now im all in favor of keeping tabs
on sex offenders, but isn’t 20 officers visiting the home of a
non violent ex con just a little bit overkill? While your at it,
why not send swat teams and black helicopters? One might suspect
these guys had nothing better to do. Your tax dollars at work
and play. Next item: astrology from thecosmicpath.com: Mundane:
Over the next two weeks, we have a number of MAJOR events
culminating and setting off the USA chart. Back in 1982/83, was
the Iran/Contra tale run by the same boys who are in power now.
They learned their lessons back then and didn’t leave much in
the way of paper trails this time around. Cash on the
barrelhead. No wire tapping warrants. Merge and protect their
data suppliers. Establish unbridled Presidential Powers and call
it the Unitary Executive Branch. Take maximum advantage of
another "Pearl Harbor" kind of event, call it 9-11,
and pass amazing legislation virtually overnight (why was that
bill written and ready to go?) called the Patriot Act. Ignore
checks and balances as designed in the constitution. Put signing
statements on every law passed by Congress to say you aren’t
going to do them. Control the voting machines so 80% of the
population votes on your equipment without a paper trail or
audit mechanism.
In May 2000, Dick Cheney said he was the best guy to be George
Bush’s Vice-President. Over the past 6 years, we’ve gone
down a long, rather dark path toward creating a totalitarian
fascist country. Look up the definition of those words in the
dictionary if you don’t believe me! We’ve watched the steady
erosion of our civil rights, destruction of the middle class,
the consolidation of the free press media into 5 companies,
exported our manufacturing base, eliminated jobs, removed our
right to declare bankruptcy, enhanced eminent domain to take
away property rights, broken our union working force, invaded a
sovereign nation, removed habeas corpus from the constitution
for our citizens as well as for all of those "unlawful
enemy combatants", permitted torture in our name and spent
our two treasures of citizen’s blood and money to control and
occupy the fifth largest oil field in the world. The boys in
charge have dispatched the Eisenhower Carrier group of the Navy
known as the ike strike force, , to sail for Iran’s coast. The
Ike Strike Force arrives off the coast of Iran around October
21-22, 2006. While I hate to make predictions like this I have a
feeling we are going to be invading Iran over the next couple of
weeks. Or there will be a "triggering" incident so we
CAN invade Iran over the next two weeks. Next item: well the gv
union informs us that federal and local govt is about to make
another big deal about drug use in the workplace. I think its
called lets test everyone for everything week. Actually
its U.S. Department of Labor's Drug-Free Work Week. All across
the country, employers and employees will be asked to implement
programs to make their workplaces drug free. I suppose there are
problems with some drug use in the workplace, but when one looks
at the drugs targeted and those not targeted, one has to wonder
just who these do gooder programs are really serving. A few
quotes from the gv union article: some official stated, "Drug
tests usually deal with illicit drugs like methamphetamine,
"but alcohol is still our No. 1 problem," adding
that prescription drug abuse in the workplace is rising. Well if
someone is abusing a drug proscribed by a doctor, just how is it
determined they are abusing? And Who is abusing, the proscribing
doctor or the guy swallowing the pills? 2nd question:
if alcohol is the #1 problem, and no one is tested for alcohol
use, just how effective are these programs? "People
drink because it legal, but that makes it a lot easier to abuse,"
Phelps said. Well now. Cannibis use is legal with a doctors
recommendation under state law, while still illegal under
archaic federal law, but these drug tests still include testing
for cannibis. Why? Why is cannibis still lumped in with
methamphetamines, cocaine, and heroin? most high school kids
know the difference, why don’t the drug test people know that?
Alcohol use is not tested, even tho everyone admits that alcohol
is the leading problem. Can anyone explain the logic in that? I
thought not. However There is one glimmer of common sense in
this wackiness. The article does mention that "those who
employ drivers would probably find drug testing to be a good
idea". Well hallelujah., someone somewhere just might
grasp the concept that some jobs and tasks are inherently more
dangerous than other jobs and tasks. I don’t know about you,
but I really don’t care what drugs the supermarket checkout
personal are using or abusing, or the kids flipping burgers at
the fast food joints, or people locked in cubicles with their
computers humming, but I do care what drugs bus and truck
drivers are playing with. Oh yeah, doctors and heart surgeons. I
think I care how loaded they are on the job. Do they get tested?
No they do not. How bout law enforcement? Do you care how
impaired those guys with guns and authority to use them are? If
these drug testing advocates were really sensible about drugs on
the worksite, they would differentiate between drugs that impair
performance, and are a clear danger to the user and others, and
recreational drugs that may even improve employees performance
by making the employees happier and less stressed out. And they
would concentrate on workplaces that feature jobs that are
dangerous, rather than targeting jobs that are simply boring and
tedious. Sorry to have to point out the obvious, but some jobs
are just not as critical as other jobs. I know that statement
might not be politically or new age correct, but its non the
less true. Pressuring every employer to institute drug testing
on every employee is simply another attempt to institute govt
control over the populace. Especially when the testers get to
decide what drugs are tested for and which are ignored. Shouldn’t
the employers, who by the way pay for the tests, be the ones to
decide which drugs they want their employees tested for? Can an
employer tell the testers look I don’t care about this this
and this, I just want you to test for these? Or do the
testers make up the list? How bout a system where the employees
get a vote on what they are tested for? We the employees agree
that this list of drugs are dangerous and you can test us for
them, but these others are harmless, and its non of your damm
business if we use them in our non working hours. But no. big
brother decides, and you follow along. Or you cant get a job,
and then you must turn to crime or welfare to feed your family,
and then you are a bad evil despicable person, and we have the
right to condemn you and poop on your head. So an essentially
good idea, making the workplace safe and more productive, is
distorted and perverted until it serves no one. When will we
wake up? Next item: JURY DUTY SCAM:
well, in the past I have
passed on some items that turned out to be hoaxes. This one came
to me by email with the notation : This has been verified on
Snopes.com (link listed below)
and by the FBI (their link is also included below).
Most of us take summons for jury duty seriously, but
enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and
ominous kind of scam has surfaced. Fall for it and your identity
could be stolen, reports CBS. In this con, someone calls
pretending to be a court official who threateningly says a
warrant has been issued for your arrest because you didn't show
up for jury duty. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If
you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the
scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of
birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the
arrest warrant. Give out this information and bingo!
Your identity just got stolen. The scam has been reported
so far in 11 states, The FBI and the federal court system have
issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers
about the fraud.

Next item: This mornings news announced that more American
soldiers are dying daily in iraq than ever before, but not to
worry, as the explanation for the increase in daily deaths is
that we are sending more troups out on patrol. You do understand
the logic, don’t you?. . If the troups stay behind the barbed
wire in their bases, or locked in their barracks, we only lose
so many dead per day, but, if we send them out on patrol, or to
protect the convoys of the war profiteers Halliburton et al, we
lose more troops. Im sure there is some point to that startling
observation, but it escapes me.
Next item: here’s a creative use of your tax dollars. last
week, your federal congress, it its infinite wisdom, voted to
spend $20 million of your tax dollars for, get this, a victory
in iraq and afghaniststan celebration. Im not making this up.
The us military is getting its butt kicked in both countries,
and we are going to pretend we are winning by staging a $20
million celebration of an absolute fantasy. Politics neo con
style: If you cant accept reality, toss an expensive party
celebrating the opposite of that reality. George orwell would
have loved it.
Next item: from a listener: For those of you who may not yet
have heard of this film, Aaron Russo's America :Freedom to
Fascism has just been released for free on the net. Probably the
most important wake up call you will ever witness concerning
this planet and country. A must see for the world so share this
with everyone you possibly can. Time is running out if it hasn't
already. The link will be on my website.

Because of the removal of the Right to Habeas Corpus, the
government can now arrest you, in your home and without a
warrant, and incarcerate you without honoring your request for a
lawyer. You can disappear for as long as they wish to hold you
and you have no recourse. Aaron said that due to this, his plan
of theatre release will take too much time to get this film to
the public so he will place it on the Internet for free. Good to
his word, Aaron Russo has made the America: Freedom to Fascism
movie available, free, on the Internet. This is a must see film
and the listener urges you to take advantage of this
opportunity.
