July 12 comentary "For links to the articles I read on
the air, guest websites, archived shows, my commentaries, a
listener's discussion forum, and the text of Mark Stanneart’s
latest commentary, visit: www.rabblerousing.org."
Well this is one of those items passed on by a listener. I
don’t have a cell phone so Im not sure if this is accurate,
but for those of you with cell phones. It might be important. .,
all cell phone numbers are soon being released to
telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale
calls. .YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.... To
prevent this, call the following number from
your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT
CALL list. It blocks your number for five (5) years.
Next item article by Mark
Crispin Miller titled 'My advice for this year's
elections'
Alright, let's pretend, just for the sake of argument, that the
Repubs are right, as are most Democrats and the media,
when they insist that the election was legitimate. Fine.
We're going to give them one more chance to hold
elections that are credible. We're going to throw ourselves into
this next election, getting out as many voters as we can.
The turn-out will be huge, especially by the standard of
off-year elections. Americans will come out to vote, in part, as
a way to take a stand on behalf of free and fair elections.
No early voting, and as little absentee voting as possible. The
point here is to have a massive turn-out on Election Day.
We'll not only work to boost the turn-out, but we also plan to
monitor this thing with an unprecedented thoroughness. We're
going to watch the polls, and watch them count the votes. We're
going to keep track of every wrong or merely screwy incident,
every startling trend, every weird anomaly. We're also going to
pay close heed to all the relevant statistics: newspaper polls,
independent exit polls (we cannot trust the NEP) and so on.
And so, when the Repubs win yet again, surprisingly maintaining
their control of Congress, notwithstanding their subterranean
approval ratings, we will be prepared to note all the anomalies
and improprieties -- and, at long last, to SAY NO. As this will
have been the fourth election cycle ravaged by Bush/Cheney since
2000, Americans must finally go Ukrainian, and just refuse to
acknowledge BushCo's latest "win."
Where that may take us I can't say. But it is something that, it
seems to me, we have to do, or else we don't deserve to call
ourselves the citizens of a republic.
Next item: I may catch some flack for this one but someone
has to say it so it might as well be me. Please keep firmly in
mind that my opinions are my own and don’t necessarily reflect
the views of anyone else at kvmr, neither management, staff,
other broadcasters or contributors. this mornings kvmr news
featured yesterdays board of supervisors meeting which honored
local war casualty noah bailey. I found the reportage very
disturbing, especially the grandstanding of our local
politicians. Point #1, noah bailey is a not a war hero,
he is a war casualty. He is a tragic victim of our
invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and iraq. Don’t get me
wrong. His loss of limb is tragic, not only because he will go
the rest of his life without something god gave to all of us,
but tragic because his sacrifice was so pointless. Question: Are
we as individuals or as a nation any more secure because of noah
baileys sacrifice? If so, show me the evidence. There is ample
evidence that the world is less secure not more so as result of
American govt folly in the middle east. Saddam husain was a
nasty dictator, but he and his govt had absolutely nothing to do
with 911 nor did he train or export terrorists to foreign lands.
He was zero threat to the united states and to speak or imply
otherwise is simply to distort reality. We invaded his country
and overthru him because he wouldn’t let us control his oil.
if his country didn’t have oil, he would still be in power,
still mistreating his people and we wouldn’t care one bit. The
same is true for Afghanistan and our invasion and overthrow of
the Taliban. If we didn’t want to build an oil pipeline thru
their country we couldn’t care less how the Taliban treated
their people. Both osuma bin lauden and the Taliban who
sheltered him claimed they had no involvement in 911 when they
would have benefited greatly by claiming credit. Spreading
democracy my tail feathers. We want their oil. no oil, no
interest. end of story. To glorify sending our children,
friends, neighbors, loved ones half way round the world to
invade sovereign nations so we can steal their oil is so
misguided it borders on the obscene. Then when the invaded
citizens retaliate in the only fashion available to them and
mine their roads and one of our invading military vehicles gets
blown up, and one of our loved ones loses a limb, that to me is
not bravery, its folly. I always thought that bravery in combat
entailed action above and beyond the call of duty. This young
man signed up to go to war, a lying president sent him off to
war under false pretenses, and he returns missing a limb. I have
read nothing that indicates that he did anything more heroic
than to be riding in a military vehicle that was in the wrong
place at the wrong time. To pretend that this one soldiers
actions were somehow glorious, brave, action above and beyond
the call to duty casts discredit upon all our military veterans
who did act above and beyond their calls of duty. If I were a
combat vet I would be furious at politicians using this personal
tragedy to grandstand with emotional catches in their voices
about his noble sacrifice, rather than use their position of
power and leadership to question why in hell he was over there
in the first place, and then to do all in their power to bring
all his fellow soldiers home and out of danger. True leadership
would be to work to prevent more of our young men and women
becoming victims of king georges oil wars, not to continue to
pretend their sacrifice was for some noble cause. Invading
another country in order to steal or control their natural
resources is not a noble cause. It is despicable. In my opinion,
this invasion and occupation of iraq is insane, and for our
politicians to pretend otherwise is perpetuating the madness.
The exact same is true for or invasion and occupation of
Afghanistan. I have great empathy for noah bailey and his
family, and am ashamed of our local politicians for using his
tragedy to somehow justify, glorify and continue the folly that
caused his loss. Next item: it seems that Russian strong man
Vladimir putin was recently photographed lifting the shirt of a
child and kissing his stomach. Some journalists later questioned
whether putin was demonstrating pedophile tendencies. Not so
says my local Russian émigré friend. He points out that
Russians are physically demonstrative and to any Russian it was
a perfectly harmless gesture. So that’s our Russian culture
lesson for today. Don’t say you never learn nothing listening
to rabble rousing.
Next item: local politics just may rise a bit higher on the
boredom scale . this morns gv union reports that Rep. John
Doolittle accepted on Tuesday challenger Charlie Brown's
challenge to a debate, or a series of debates as brown had
proposed. , although Doolittle's spokesperson said the event
will wait until closer to the Nov. 7 election. It remains to be
seen if these proposed debates will actually happen, as doolitle
is a master politician and has little to gain and a lot to loose
by face to face confrontation with his challenger, but at least
Charlie brown finally got his picture in the paper, along of
course with the obligatory photo of big john. Stay tuned to this
one. Could get interesting.
