Bush buddies and war hawks should consider the wise words of

from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse
honest dissent with disloyal subversion." Bush buddies and

From my atrology website: Did anybody notice that Republican
leaders Senator Frist and Representative DeLay were
simultaneously taken out of action due to "legal"
matters? The USA succession plan says next up is Speaker of the
House, Representative Hassert and then Condoleezza Rice.
Rumsfeld is number six in line. Homeland Security Chertoff would
be eighth if the House approves the Senates’ late July 2005
bill moving the Homeland Security secretary to number 8 on the
list. Last I heard, that bill is still awaiting House approval.
Interesting times we live in.
Last week our community lost another woman to domestic
violence. When she attempted to leave her marriage, her husband
brutally killed her. This mornings left coast radio show had a
brief segment on the issue of domestic violence. On it, I heard
a chilling statistic. During the years of the viet nam debacle,
more American women died from domestic violence than American
men died in viet nam. I have no way to verify that, but if true
it’s a very chilling statistic. During the show,. I called in
and while agreeing that it was men’s responsibility to not
support their comrades abusive behavior, attempted to make the
further point that it was also womens responsibility to help
their sisters in breaking away from abusive relationships. I was
cut off before I could make my point, and then a later caller
somehow twisted what I said into my implying that women return
to abusive relationships because they enjoy the abuse. How the
callerarrived at that conclusion is beyond my comprehension.
People tend to hear what they want to hear, rather than what is
spoken. So let me state my position without being cut off or
misunderstood. Domestic violence is a problem for all of us.
Yes, men can and should attempt to dissuade their brothers from
abusing their mates, but I have news for you ladies. We don’t
know how our male acquaintances or even our friends behave in
the privacy of their homes. I have never ever heard a man brag
about abusing his mate. We men may talk about seemingly stupid
things like sports, how much drugs we consumed last nite, and if
we got lucky, but I have never ever heard a man talk about
abusing his mate. The simple truth is that I have no idea how my
men friends treat their mates in the privacy of their homes.
Some Males may brag about their sexual exploits, but ive never
heard a male brag about beating the snot out of their mate last
nite. So how would we know? Conversely, I have heard that women
do talk about how their mates treat them. I know they talk to me
about their abusive relationships, and im a male. They must talk
to their women friends as well. So it seems to me that the first
line of defense is to help the abused women in every way
possible to get out of abusive relationships and away from their
abusers. Any sane and compassionate society must be willing to
provide shelter, aid, and direction for abused persons, male,
female adult or child. Any less and we fail as humans. And we
also need to provide protection, not meaningless restraining
orders with no teeth, but real protection. Sending the abusers
off to anger management counseling is a nice idea, but bottom
line: does it work?. Judging by the number of murdered spouses,
I’d have to guess that all too often it doesn’t work. I say
that any abuser sentenced to anger management counseling who
drops out, goes immediately to jail. I say that any spousal
abuser, upon their 2nd conviction, gets jail time.
Lock em up. That’s protection. If when they get out, they
abuse again, or stalk, which demonstrates the potential to abuse
again, then they are demonstrating that they are out of control.
Protect all of us from out of control rage-a-holics. lock em up
permanently. If the three strikes and your out law has any use
whatsoever this is its prime usage. Im not afraid of guys who
steal pizza’s or running shoes. Applying the 3rd
strike law to them makes a mockery of the law. Im not afraid of
bank robbers, or people who commit check fraud, or other white
collar crime. I don’t like them but I don’t fear them. I am
afraid of rage a holics who abuse their spouses or children.
Lock em up. For a long time. A further suggestion: judges are
elected officials. If you have in your community a judge who
appears too lenient on spousal abusers, write them with your
concerns, and when they come up for re election, write letters
to editors alerting voters about that judges record. District
attnys are also elected officials. Same suggestion. Let your da
and your judges know that its not ok to slap an abuser on the
wrist, say naughty naughty, and send them off to anger
management counseling. The abuser has demonstrated that they are
out of control, and that they represent a clear and present
danger to their family and their community. We need protection
from such criminals. The elimination of Domestic spousal abuse,
and child abuse, is everyone’s responsibility. We all need to
play our part. So please don’t tell me that since most abusers
are male, that I as a male bear the most responsibility. I don’t
buy it. We all bear responsibility.
Regarding yesterdays election. One thing seems clear. Big
parma’s tactic of offering prop 78 to confuse voters wanting
drug price reforms was successful. Both their scam proposition
and the citizens initiative prop 78 lost, which means big pharma
won. They got exactly what they paid for. What is urgently
needed is for the phamphlets sent out to voters before elections
to clearly state who is funding the various proposals. And I don’t
mean the innocuous sounding names like calif citizens for the
encouragement of butt kissing. I mean the real money donors.
If any corporation or industry donated millions advertising for
or against any proposition, it should be clearly stated on the
ballot, or at least on the pamphlet sent to voters. |
