| 31 aug commentary
well now. Did you see a giant mars in your sky? neither did i.
That may be because it was another internet hoax. I received the
email last wed as I was putting my show together and added in
with out checking it out. Next day I got an embarrassed apology
from the listener who sent it in. here is my reply to him. .
"well poop. you got embarrased with your email and i
get embarassed on air. thats twice in 2 weeks. the previous was
the very well crafted parody of a medical abstract suggesting
that anti govt paranioa be declared an official mental illness,
with hospitalization recommended. i simply have not
time nor energy to research all the stuff i read on air. So im
at the mercy of whomever sends me articles to read. These hoaxes
tends to degrade my entire show. depressing.
im amazed at the time and energy that people devote to internet
hoaxes. I wonder if this is a particularly american
phenomena or worldwide? do people in other societies waste
their creativity on such stuff? what is it in peoples
psyches that they get off on essentially negative
endeavors? more insidious still are the folks that
create virus's, worms, and other harmful computer
glitches. i can understand getting your rocks off screwing
with corporate and govt systems data bases , but to destroy
innocent private citizen's computers? weird, and a sad
commentary on our species.
So, next time I read something that just doesn’t seem
credible to you, don’t just sit there, call in and challenge
me. We can talk about it and perhaps alert other listeners that
it might be phony. I might even be polite as we talk.
Next item: 5 More Co-Sponsors for Barbara Lee's Resolution of
Inquiry
There are now 49 co-sponsors of H Res 375, which requires the
President to turn over information concerning the war planning
that took place in 2002. The five latest are Congressmen Barney
Frank, Elijah Cummins, Rush Holt, Gregory Meeks, and Brad
Sherman. Note to local listeners. John Doolittle is not on
this list. The Resolution will likely be voted on in the House
International Relations Committee between Sept. 6 and Sept. 16.
The more congress members who co-sponsor, the more likely some
committee members are to both vote Yes and engage in a
serious debate in the committee. The ranking Democrat on
the committee is Tom Lantos. This website publishes a
report on efforts to lobby him and what you can do to help: they
further state:
In the past month, many of you have asked your Representative to
co-sponsor. Please keep up the pressure. Call your
Representative's Washington Office (ask for him/her by name at
202-224-3121, and ask for the Legislative Aide who handles
international issues.: the site suggest you Take good notes on
your conversation and report back to them. they also offer
information about the Resolution of Inquiry: the site address
for all of this is http://www.afterdowningstreet.org
next item: this weeks award for being completely out of touch
with reality, or perhaps the award is for believing your own bs,
but eioithr way, it goes to the head of the joint chiefs of
staff gen Richard Meyers. He just returned from a quick trip to
iraq, to breathlessly announce that things over there are
actually much better than Americans believe. That’s not a typo
folks, he actually claimed that things are better than corporate
media reports, not worse. He further pontificated that Americans
have it too easy and should being doing more to support the war.
This great leader of our military pointed out that in former
wars Americans planted victory gardens, bought war bonds,
endured food and fuel rationing, you know, sacrificed. One can
only assume that giving our loved ones over to the govt to use
as cannon fodder in a war only the elite will benefit from is
not sufficient sacrifice. Im sure cindy Sheehan and the other
gold star mothers would agree. But the statement that catapults
him ahead of all rivals and earns him this weeks award was his
noting that a major reason Americans might be not fully behind
this folly are all the media reports of: insurgent attacks on
our troops, the resulting casualties, lack of progress in
improving the life of Iraqis, allegations of war profiteering,
and other such negative stories. There you have it folks. It’s
the media’s fault. And chief of staff gen Richard Meyers is
the tooth fairy. With leaders like him, who needs enemies?
next item: the following is an email I received from a
friend in Lincoln neb. Its from the neb audabon society. Neb is
the heartland of republicanism and bush supporters. So perhaps
its significant that even some of them are waking up. IT
HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID
NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL on the same
day, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET
LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES
OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
my comment: they may lose that $ on paper for that day but they
will recoup it the following day. So that logic seems misleading
to me.
THEREFORE SEPTEMBER 1ST HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK
IT UP THEIR @$$ " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD
NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY. THE ONLY WAY THIS
CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS
YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES
IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND
CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED WEEKS AGO?
REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP
BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES,
TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH
EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD,
CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN
THE END? WE DO!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER
ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO
EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKESEPTEMBER 1ST A
DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS
ENOUGH."
So, even Lincoln neb. Seems to be waking up
